Mindful eating
is the missing link in most weight loss programs. Mindful eating
will help you feel more nourished in your life. Learning to eat
mindfully will help you make healthy food choices with greater
ease, as well as to enjoy food more. When you become aware of
how you eat and how it makes you feel, you can eat less without
feeling deprived.

are examples of mindless eating. When we eat mindlessly, our actions

Mindful
eating can change your whole experience with food. When you are
mindful about eating, it means you are aware of how you eat and
how it makes you feel. Mindful eating simply means paying attention.
When
you practice mindfulness, you are less reactive to your emotions,
thoughts and cravings. When you eat mindfully, you allow yourself
to connect with the nurturing qualities of food and eating. Mindful
eating helps you consciously choose foods that both please and
nourish you.
Think
of this as a journey — an exploration into a new way of
being with your body. There is nothing here to "get right"
just a chance to experiment with different tools and approaches,
a chance to see what works best for you.
Leave your judgment
behind. Put your opinions about what you "should" be
doing on hold, and just notice what is actually happening. Just

In this exercise we will take a full five
minutes to get the full experience of eating one raisin. It is
eye-opening: even a simple raisin can be satisfying!

When we eat while rushing around, we are
not really paying attention. This exercise will help you experience
eating in a mindful way. When you have practiced in your mind,
it is easier to do later with real food.

Eating with other people can make it more
challenging to pay attention, and some social situations can trigger
overeating. This exercise will guide you through a way of eating
that allows you to enjoy your companionship and still pay attention
to what you are eating and how you feel.
- Pause and Relax: mindful

It helps to pause before choosing to eat,
especially when you are not hungry to start with. Taking that
pause can get you in touch with what you are really hungry for.
Using breath and body awareness are tools to help you stay in
the moment.

and breath more deeply.

and renew in the natural rhythm of the breath

This breath exercise helps give you full
nourishment from air and breath. When you are able to rest in
your breath, you may feel less stressed and less hungry.

attention and appreciation to each body part

This exercise is a variation on a common
technique called a body scan, in which we take your awareness
through your entire body from your toes to the top of your head.
Tuning in to each body part with appreciation helps make you more
comfortable in your body.
